            Free Marital Advice

It happens from time to time at night,
that me and my hubby have a fight.

We sit and talk, and sort it through,
and end the night with a make-up screw.

It's good to let go, forgive and move on,
and conclude serious matters with a fit of passion.

This advice applies only to marriage,
it's use at the office is highly discouraged!

        PINK

Today they choose
to talk the talk.
To say they recognize
how to respect
each other.
To say they feel badly
for all those
lost along the way.
They show their
solidarity,
and scream for
no tolerance.
Then they
roll their eyes,
turn their backs,
and walk
the same old walk
they've been
walking for years.

         EVERMORE

"I have a dream!" They shouted,
One and all.
As they pulled out their masks
like a masquerade ball.
They all worked together
in fine unison.
Speaking of freedom
and social union.
And just when I thought
they were done their first take,
Rachel began the Harlem Shake.
I was satisfied, proud,
and impressed to the core.
I'll not forget your
Flash Mob
EVERMORE!

     HANDS

When I was five,
I went to call on
my neighbour,
John.
When his mother
answered the door,
my eyes
leaped
with horror
to her
HANDS.
I just about shrieked
when
I noticed
her thin,
shiny skin,
barely concealing
the thick,
dark blue veins,
that gnarled
and demonized
their look.
I thought they
were the
HANDS
of a monster,
and I
wondered
what could have
possibly
made them so.
Yesterday,
I looked down
and screamed
when I saw
that
Father Time
had transplanted
John's mother's
HANDS
onto mine!
And now
I know,
what
made them so.

Relief

You know that feeling,
when you've been
unwell,
or particularly
burdened
by something,
and
suddenly
you're better,
or
the weight is
alleviated.
The result
is so
glorious
it is almost
intoxicating,
and energizing.
I just wish
I spent as much time
celebrating
the relief,
as I did
worrying
about it!

Got My Lucky Charm!

I married you
for your
good looks,
musical talent,
sense of humour,
cute butt,
and
cabin in the woods.
Yet your
greatest feature
is your
remarkable,
consistent,
almost shocking
LUCK!
Are you
sure
you're not
Irish?

Ahhhhhh! I leapt out of bed, groggy and sweaty, only to discover I'd missed my blogging deadline by minutes. My daughter's reaction,"The story will make a great poem!" Sorry I missed you Friday... It was the migraine's fault!

It happened today
that I didn't blog a poem
I blame the migraine!

Aunty M

It all starts
with the
sensation
that someone
is
using my
optic nerves
like
Taiko drums.
Then the
junior band
shows up
and makes
Neil Peart
look like a
rookie.
When the
pipe band
arrives
I finally
recognize
the signs.
Aunty Migraine
is coming to visit.
She brings
a huge trunk,
so I always
fear
her intentions.
I am
humbled
by her
presence, and
gracious
beyond belief
when she
decides to
leave.
I can't believe
that I am
related
to such a
PAIN!

Apple-Tree

Today I will feature my daughter Aeden's poem,
and know that in my 'poetry quest' I no longer stand alone!

Old Man On The Hill

The old man sits upon the wooden stairs
His heart is stolen, face set in a glare
Scanning his eyes along his broken town
Fists forever clenched. Lips in a frown
He's labeled as the one who lost it all,
Watching as he sees society fall
Avoided by youth, he sits there alone
Upon those wooden stairs, frozen in stone.

He knew he'd go, this world was deranged,
He was in awe by the outcome, everything's changed.

   A Gift

He's late.
He comes racing in,
papers flying.
He needs Disney Tunes.
Ten
By Thursday.
He's promised
to play through
the scene changes
for the
school musical.
Thursday.
BTW
He wont be
home for
supper
on Thursday.
His night to cook.
Make a list,
he begs.
I start making
dinner,
and look up
Top 25
Disney Songs
on my phone.
By 6:00
he's got his
dinner...
and his
playlist.
We eat.
We clear.
He plays.
The perfect
life lesson
for the ultimate
procrastinator
is to fall on
one's arse
with
lack of
preparedness.
As ever,
the lesson
evades him,
as his fingers
tickle the ivory.
He takes
simple, classic
melodies
and turns them
into melodic
adventures
in Calypso
and Jazz.
It is beyond
sweet
and mesmerizing
to hear his
last minute
improvised
concerto!
But damn
it's annoying
that he flies
by the seat
of his
'deferred agenda'
pants,
only to
sound like the
MASTER
of his
own domain!
It's a gift.

  Pay Cheque

Waiting for its arrival
Like the Messiah
Bringing promise
Relief
Opportunity

Wallowing in
disappointment
When its arrival
Goes by practically
Unnoticed
Leaving only
A dent
A vague reminder
That it came
At all

And the waiting
Begins again...

I woke up with a vision of this song/rap in my head. It works in unison with a traditional Chassidic Jewish folk song "Shema Benee Moosar Aveecha..."

Listen Child

Listen my child
to the teachings told

It's the source, it's the roots
of all that is truth
passed on by families old.

Don't hesitate
Don't question fate

It's your inner truth
and the spiritual youth
will carry on our race.

(Chorus)
NOW RISE UP
Sing out for history
Defeating misery
Sing out for all those who survived.
Sing out for freedom
To follow your own plan
Sing out for keeping us alive!

We've got our roots & wings
Our identity that brings

The names, the voice,
the personal choice
that in us chimes and rings.

Don't you deny it
Don't you dare hide it

Figure it out
Let it play itself out
Let fate identify it.

(Chorus)
NOW RISE UP
Sing out for history
Defeating misery
Sing out for all those who survived.
Sing out for freedom
To follow your own plan
Sing out for keeping us alive!

Thursday, 14 February 2013

                   It's Thursday

Through the hustle and bustle of the busy work day,
I sense that there's something artificial.
About the fourteenth of February,
when declaring one's love physical and mental.

The prices of chocolate and flowers go up,
greeting cards in demand and all scattered.
With people's emotions and wallets lined up,
often to have their hearts shattered.

So sometimes it's wise to skip the kerfuffle,
to boycott the capitalist pull.
Remember that loving is always a shuffle,
despite the date up on the wall.

I am so sorry
that your mother passed away
and I didn't call.
I thought you were in Vegas.
I was obviously wrong!

Family Day

Happy Family Day

Up at 9:30
after a glorious
eight hour sleep.
Bubble bath,
and a round of
Taboo
with the whole gang
by the fire.
Now we're getting
ready to walk
through two kilometres
of forest,
to get to
Red Robin.
We'll need the
flashlights...
Tee Hee
Happy Family Day!!!

The Return

I'm back!
And pulsating
with jittery fervour.
My spiritual rhythm has
once again guided me
back to the source,
the One.

Shabbaton

In a resounding
bubble
of familiarity,
of camaraderie,
of unison,
we joined spirits.
We celebrated
and mingled
together,
merging us into
the family
we were conceived as,
thousands of years ago.

      Hey Freddy

Hey Freddy,
We're in the truck again.
On the open road,
You and me my friend.

Hey Freddy,
Remember that I swear.
Beware of rancid gas
and protruding underwear.

I know you know the truth,
that I'm all talk no bite.
So we laugh, and mock and shame,
and surely never fight.

Some folks would be daunted
working weekend, minding kids.
But I just love to hang with you,
the laughter flips my lid.

So here is to Seattle,
let's hope we get some sleep.
Enjoy each other's company,
as once again we meet.

GO AWAY!

Seriously,
You are the
WORST
boss ever!
You are younger
and stupider
than me!
You're invisible.
You avoid me.
When I finally
catch you to
ask you a question,
you make me feel
rushed.
Like I'm wasting
your time.
When I need you,
you ignore me.
When I explode,
you shake your head
with repugnance.
You are inexperienced,
and ignorant.
You make my job
1000 times
more difficult
than it needs to be,
fulfilling the complete
opposite
of your job
requirement.
I really think
you should consider
purchasing a
Tim Horton's franchise.
That would be
a little more
up your
alley.

   Mom's Taxi

I take Aeden to
buy jeans at the mall,
then I take her
to ballet.
I go back to the
mall to exchange
the jeans,
then pick up Aeden
from dance.
When we come home,
Dez is waiting for a ride
to work.
I arrive back just in time
to take Liam to the
bowling alley for a
birthday party!
Why is it that I don't mind
spending my Saturday being
Mom's Taxi?
I adore my children...
and
the Fifty Shades
audio book playing
in between pick ups
and drop offs
helps!

        Spontaneous Chorus
                        Today
                we were reading,
     when we heard some footsteps.
Then we heard singing and joined in.
          We sat with our buddies
             and clapped our hands.
                     Such fun!
