A Gift
He's late.
He comes racing in,
papers flying.
He needs Disney Tunes.
Ten
By Thursday.
He's promised
to play through
the scene changes
for the
school musical.
Thursday.
BTW
He wont be
home for
supper
on Thursday.
His night to cook.
Make a list,
he begs.
I start making
dinner,
and look up
Top 25
Disney Songs
on my phone.
By 6:00
he's got his
dinner...
and his
playlist.
We eat.
We clear.
He plays.
The perfect
life lesson
for the ultimate
procrastinator
is to fall on
one's arse
with
lack of
preparedness.
As ever,
the lesson
evades him,
as his fingers
tickle the ivory.
He takes
simple, classic
melodies
and turns them
into melodic
adventures
in Calypso
and Jazz.
It is beyond
sweet
and mesmerizing
to hear his
last minute
improvised
concerto!
But damn
it's annoying
that he flies
by the seat
of his
'deferred agenda'
pants,
only to
sound like the
MASTER
of his
own domain!
It's a gift.
Sally
