Sinking Sensation
It really feels like
they don't want me anymore
and that makes me sad!

THROB
He's wounded.
The man who
charges me
with creative
energy.
He's tumbled
and fallen,
and finds the
painkillers
abroad
to be weak.
He can't
think.
He can't
contemplate
magic
when he's
pounding with
pulsating torment.
I wish I could
Jewish Mother
him to a
speedy recovery.
Poems are
less effective than
chicken soup though...
But it's all I have!
Feel better
Timmy B,
and start
making your
miracles
once again!

Hello,
It is difficult to find words to describe how I feel about posting my 200th poem today.
There have been more than 4000 views over the past few months...THANK YOU for taking an interest. I am honoured by your curiosity. Please feel free to comment. I would LOVE to hear what you have to say (I think)!
I realize that my poetry is far from brilliant, but my intention has been to utilize the writing of daily poetry as a form of rehabilitation, as a method to help process and cope with the stress of the daily grind. All I can say is that the experience has been life changing... Only 165 to go! Although I can't imagine stopping now!
Pick-Lick-Roll-Ha!
The first time I drove by
I caught you in
mid pick.
When you pulled up
next to me
moments later,
you were
rolling down your
window and
getting ready to flick.
I morphed from
complete and
total disgust
to rib tickling,
Karmic appreciation.
Your great big wad
of rolled up
snotty accumulation
landed right back on
YOUR car!
Ha!
That's what you get
for trying to dump
your boogies
on the world!
GOTCHA!

This poem is a sequel to Santa Lives on 12th and Fraser (originally posted on this blog in November 2012).
Day Job
Santa is trying to
make a turn around.
At the Salvation Army
Thrift Store,
the electric blue
K-Way
calls to him
like the
bright lights
on Broadway.
Opportunity speaks,
and his insides
rumble with
excitement.
"I'll take it."
He says,
reaching deeply
into his pocket.
His hands shaking
with anticipation
as he prays
for Toonies
and Loonies.
In the reflection
of the shop door
he puts it on.
He lifts the hood
onto his head.
The transformation
is solidified.
With his
bright white beard,
and cranberry red
sweatpants,
Santa is
moonlighting
as Papa Smurf.
Again
his existence
is complete.

Go Figure
When I was in
Grade 9
I went to Montreal
to study
Judaism,
and learn
French.
The only
French phrase
I managed to perfect
in over 11
months was,
Quelle putant a pété ici?
What hooker farted here?
Hmmm
I wonder what
that says about me?
To further
the depiction,
it seems
to have been
a beneficial phrase
to have
mastered,
as I have
used it
countless
times.

Venus Kid Trap
Today I wore a shirt
that attracted one and all.
Little, sniveling, curly kids,
and those who are quite tall.
They came from all directions,
they reached and groped and stroked.
They caught me in a corner
and bleated like some goats.
They fondled and they petted,
they rubbed and slid their hands.
They hung out in my bubble,
and hovered in the stands.
It's not at all just me they want,
and for that I'm not hurt.
It's the draw of fabric silky, soft
on my velvet shirt.
It got all their attention,
their thought it did inspire.
But later on when I got home,
the shirt went in the fire.
Don't think that I don't like
their magnetic draw to me.
It's that I need a little space
to breathe and freely be!

"Ring! Ring!"
Sitting in a meeting
wondering,
whatever compelled me
to go into this Biz.
I suppose it was
the smell of
apple juice,
warm fuzzies,
stickers,
scented erasers,
calendar songs,
memorable assemblies,
sweet teacher smiles.
Successes,
supported failures,
giggles in the washroom,
holding hands,
working through tears,
making new friends.
Writing stories,
telling secrets,
scoring goals,
collecting memories.
Filling photo albums,
and setting up connections
that will be
recollected
at every reunion.
Building a
childhood
one school day
at a time.

Honey, I'm Home!
I come home
reeling from my day.
My head is aching.
I swallow my
third round
of painkillers
and make a cup
of coffee.
The last ten hours
are a blur.
Save for the
aftermath,
the war wounds,
the unkempt clothes,
the empty lunch box...
It could have been
a dream.
I am only
too pleased
with the
rude awakening.
I welcome
my arrival
into the womb.
The nest that
nurtures the
simple with
the complex.
My glue.
Sigh.
Home.

Surprise!
It's a delightful revelation when
I awake on a Saturday morning
disgruntled with my first thought...
MARKING!
Prepared to waste my
precious free time
grueling over work!
Yet when I begin
I am captivated,
overjoyed and
thoroughly entertained
by my student's writing.
Hmmmm...
Who would have thought
work could be
so engaging and
rewarding?
Especially on a weekend.
Surprise!

WORK
Why do we spend the majority of our lives serving others,
When we could ennoble simplicity, and need less?
Wealth seems to be so central in our agenda.
Wanting and valuing the little things, is often lost in the race.
Working and draining our earthly resources to get
Whatever it is that materialism fulfills.
Wasting valuable time and memory-making sitting in rush hour traffic.

Kitchen Foreplay
Why is it that you seem
to grab and grope my bits?
While I'm in the kitchen
cooking sauce and grits.
Why is it that you're aroused
by cakes and baking pies?
While I'm tossing flour about,
your fingers roam my thighs.
You help protect your assets,
from hot and steaming stoves.
You cup and shield the merchandise,
while I kneed the loaves.
It's not that I don't love it.
It's not that I don't yearn.
It's just that you distract me,
and cause the food to burn.
I'll meet you in the hallway,
later on tonight.
Then I'll show you just how much
dessert is out of sight!

Evolution
I was so
entirely moved
when a
Grade 6
student said
today,
"I just don't
get it. What's
wrong with
being gay?
Or having
darker skin?
What is there to hate?
It just doesn't
make sense."
I wanted to cry
with the acrimonious
realization.
Children are not
born hating.
Adults teach them how.

Sista
I thought
we had a
good talk.
A heart-to-heart.
Then I found
out that
nothing
between us
is sacred.
You will
always
report to
the top.
Your role
will always
supersede
your heart.
I'm not sure why
I didn't figure it out
the first time.
You're not genuine.
I'm sorry,
but I take
it back.
I do not love you!

Grrrrrrrrr
I am not
impressed
that my employer
has informed me
that I can
no longer park
at my place
of work.
I come from
45 minutes away.
It is hard to
make alternate
arrangements
considering I
must be on a bus
by 6:45 am
in order to
arrive on time.
Texting my kids
to make sure
they're up...
I know "Waaah!"
But it was not
the kindest
New Year's gift!
A George Jetson
foldy uppy
briefcase car
would have been
far more
practical.

Buzz Kill
Once
while seducing
my husband
in our en-suite
(we have three kids
and sleep in a loft bed...
enough said?)
I was sensually
removing my
fleece pullover
when the zipper
got caught,
and curled around,
the corkscrew of my
nose ring.
To clarify,
I had a fleece
sweater
hanging off
the inside of
my nose.
It was pulling
on my piercing
and it hurt.
As my husband
looked on in horror,
I prayed
and tried
to unhook the zipper.
To twist it backwards,
without being able to see.
I believe my
guardian angel
arrived
just in time
to shake his head,
and set me free.
Thank you
guardian angel!
I must confess,
the worst of it all,
was that
the whole event
entirely spoiled
the mood.
Though it
soon became
a favourite
story to tell!
