Evolution

I was so
entirely moved
when a
Grade 6
student said
today,
"I just don't
get it. What's
wrong with
being gay?
Or having
darker skin?
What is there to hate?
It just doesn't
make sense."
I wanted to cry
with the acrimonious
realization.
Children are not
born hating.
Adults teach them how.
