Our Heritage

She was the
youngest of
five girls.
Beautiful.
Proud of her
British and
Canadian
heritage.
She loved
painting and
drawing.
She studied art in
San Francisco and
England,
and brought her
passion and
knowledge back
home.
She broke rules
of artistry and
etiquette.
She refused to
marry William,
even though
he chased
her down.
She taught
children, she
drew, painted,
made and sold
pottery to make
a living.
She loved
animals,
especially her
pet monkey,
Woo.
She sewed dresses
for Woo,
and bred
dogs.
She hung chairs
from her ceiling,
lowering them
only for
welcome guests.
She was
eccentric,
unique,
and created
images of
British Columbia
that captured
the glory
around us!
She listened and
sought out
the stories
of our first
peoples. 
She donned
their spectacles,
and presented
their
perspective.
