Melting Hierarchy
She walked by
the cluster of moms
without even
acknowledging
their existence.
She was tall,
statuesque,
even more so
with her
5 inch heels.
Her nails looked
like something you
would pick up
around Halloween
only,
they reeked
of overpriced
services provided
by humble
underpaid
foreigners.
She owned a
successful business,
and lived in a
house that was
so cavernous
and mysterious,
that when
invited to play,
kids just explored,
as that was
entertainment
enough.
No one knows
what compelled
her to break the ice.
To move past the
puddle of moms,
and stop.
To suggest for
even a second
that they were there.
And to the
shock and disbelief of
all present, she spoke.
She asked who
Rosie's mom was...
Rosie's mom
came forward
like she had
won a prize.
She said her daughter
really enjoyed playing
with Rosie.
She tried to look
past the tattered runners,
and cracked, bitten
nails that
contributed to Rosie's
family snapshot.
She invited Rosie
to visit, and reminded
Rosie's mom that
they had a dog.
Gili was his name,
Rosie isn't afraid right?
Gili? Funny.
Rosie's mom
answered.
That is my son's name,
Rosie's brother.
Oh. How unfortunate
that your son
shares a name
with my dog.
Giggle Giggle.
Rosie isn't afraid
though right?
No. We also have
a dog. Her name
is Suzie.
Silence.
Hm, replied
that tower of
self proclaimed
greatness.
That is my name.
Oh. How
unfortunate
that you
share a name
with my dog.
Giggle Giggle.
