Well Raised
We were on
our way home
from Toys R Us.
She said she
had a great song
to play,
and slipped in
a CD.
Her brother
raised his voice
in protest but
she assured him,
"You love this song."
Then in
crisp, clear,
intoxicating
brilliance,
Tina Turner
started to belt
Proud Mary.
It was
breathtaking.
When she slipped
from a slow
meditative opening,
into a
power Gospel
soul number,
we were all
singing and dancing
(while still trying to drive)
down the street.
When it was over,
we played it again,
only to be followed
by Green Day,
Ballroom Blitz and
The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
As I hummed my way
into the carport
I recognized,
what well-raised,
eclectically
illustrious
children
I have!
